Map artist
I, Carine Lantignac, a French artist residing abroad for most of my life, found profound connections in the places I inhabited and the people I encountered along my journey. Initially, my studies in mechanics seemed disconnected from my future role as a Cabin Attendant. However, they seamlessly merged and became integral to my creative path. With an innate drive for creativity and a natural inclination for craftsmanship, I embarked on a continuous exploration of diverse forms of expression, ultimately culminating in the creation of Mapponica.
My relentless pursuit of fresh ideas led me to discover my favored medium—Artisanal Japanese paper. Mindful of the delicate nature of local craftsmanship, my maps stand as a tribute to the excellence of Japanese paper artisans, preserving time-honored traditions. To provide a sturdy foundation for my creations, I employ laser cutting to shape the maps' framework while meticulously hand-cuts each piece of Japanese paper. By melding various paper-making techniques, textures, colors, and patterns, each map is imbued with its own narrative.
My inspiration springs forth from the essence of each destination or from poignant human stories. Mapponica resonates profoundly with individuals who, like me, have left fragments of their hearts in different corners of the world. It serves as both a homage to Japanese artisans and an artistic celebration of multiculturalism, migration and its sense of identity.
私は、カリーヌ・ランティニャックと申します。私はフランスのアーティストで、ほとんどの人生を海外で過ごしてきました。私は住んだ場所や出会った人々との深いつながりを見出しました。最初に学んだ機械工学の勉強が、将来のキャビンアテンダントとしての役割とは無縁のもののように思えましたが、それらは自然に結びつき、私の創造的な道に欠かせないものとなりました。創造性への強い欲求と昔から持っていた職人技へのあこがれが自然結びつき、様々な表現形式を絶え間なく探求した結果、最終的にはMapponicaの創造に至りました。 新しいアイディアを追い求める絶え間ない努力は、伝統的な和紙を見つけることに繋がりました。地元の職人技術の繊細な性質を心に留めながら、私の地図は日本の紙職人の卓越性への敬意として立ち上がり、伝統を共にあると思っています。創作される作品にとっての堅固な基盤を提供するのは、地図の骨組みを形作るためにレーザーカットであり、一方で日本の紙の各部分は入念に手で切り取っています。さまざまな紙作りの技法、質感、色、模様を融合させることで、それぞれの地図には独自の物語が宿っています。 私のインスピレーションは、各目的地の本質からまたは感動的な人間の物語から湧き出ています。Mapponicaは、私のように世界のさまざまな場所に心の断片を残した個人と深く共鳴し、日本の職人たちへの敬意と多文化主義、移住、アイデンティティの感覚を芸術的に祝い称えるものとして表現されています。
