I’m Carine Lantignac, a French artist who has spent much of my life abroad, forging deep connections with the places I’ve lived and the people I’ve met. My journey began with studies in mechanics, which unexpectedly aligned with my role as a Cabin Attendant and ultimately led me to create Mapponica.
In my search for new forms of expression, I discovered Artisanal Japanese paper, captivated by its delicate craftsmanship. My maps pay homage to this ancient craft, blending traditional techniques with modern methods. I use laser cutting for structure and hand-cut each piece of paper, carefully blending textures, colors, and patterns to tell unique stories through every map.
Inspired by the essence of each destination and the profound human stories that shape our identities, Mapponica is a tribute to both Japanese artisans and the art of cultural fusion. It speaks to those who, like me, carry pieces of their heart across the globe, celebrating multiculturalism, craftsmanship, and the connections that bind us.
